About Us
During 1986, Mark Deighton took his son and his school friends down to New Road Playing Fields after seeing boys being trained by James Davis. After a few months of training Mark Deighton decided to enter an under 12's side in the Swale Youth League leaving James Davis and Jim Pickard to train the under 9's, and keep playing friendly fixtures under the name New Road Giants. In 1989, the name Giants was dropped and New Road FC was established. Eventually the club had a team in every age group from under 12 to 18. In 1994, the club decided to enter teams in the Medway City Boys League, the Swale Youth League has since ceased to exist. It is thought that part of the attraction of New Road FC is the emphasis is not about winning every game, but enjoying the sport, doing their best and ensuring that the New Road reputation is maintained.
The Club are proud of the many sportsmanship awards that teams have picked up. Several boys who start at under 9's go on to play right through to under 18's. Current New Road FC Under 10'S Manager, Daren Harrison, is committed to this mantra. His emphasis is strongly on "fair play" "equal opportunities" and "giving everyone a chance". Daren says "Its not just about putting your strongest team out there. All these kids have turned up and deserve to play the game, this enables kids to work together and help each other out"
We are currently in Division 3 of the Medway News Youth League under 10's. Our home ground is New Road Playing Field, Sheerness. During the season we train every Saturday with matches on Sundays.
We have toilets/changing-room facilities at the New Road Playing Fields, and refreshments can be purchased on match days, with all proceeds going to the club. Additional fund raising and donations are always warmly welcomed. Thanks to the generous parents who have made donations so far. Also thanks to our other coach Dave. Thanks to Deb for washing all the shirts every week and help with the paper work, tea and coffee etc. You work so hard and it is appreciated. Also to the other mums who help do the tea and coffee.
